Dr
Paul W Miller

Consultant Psychiatrist
I read Medicine at the
Queen's University of Belfast, qualifying in 1994. Subsequently I obtained
a Diploma in Mental Health (QUB) and was elected to Membership of the
Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1999. Currently I am a Consultant
in General Adult Psychiatry.

I have a special
interest in the psychological sequelae of trauma and am an
EMDR
Europe Approved Consultant and EMDR Institute Facilitator. Having set up
an EMDR clinic in the Craigavon Psychiatric Unit, which still continues
under the psychology service, I also set up a similar EMDR clinic with Dr
Daniel Brennan in the Mater Hospital (Belfast) where I was later employed.
This service offers a tertiary referral clinic within the psychiatry
department of the Mater Hospital Trust and now consists of four level two
trained EMDR therapists. |

My involvement with
the Genetic Epidemiology of Mental Illness in Northern Ireland
(GEMINI)
Research Project is an exciting parallel interest for me. It is an
international collaboration between Professor Kenneth Kendler - Virginia
Commonwealth University, and Dr Tony O'Neill - The Queen's University of
Belfast and The Mater Hospital
Belfast. GEMINI is looking at the genetic epidemiology of schizophrenia
and poor outcome schizoaffective disorder. Researching the genetic epidemiology of Tardive Dyskinesia (movement
disorder) in this group of patients has led to me completing a Doctor of Medicine
degree in 2006.
